Artwork title : The Power of Courage (Beautiful that way), oil on canvas, 100 x 100cm, 2025

The final painting of the exhibition focuses on celebrating a woman’s confidence, courage, and inner beauty. A woman with dwarfism is portrayed as a powerful, joyful, and independent being, sitting atop a monumental desert rose whose cascade of pink petals evokes tenderness, softness, and feminine energy. The flower is a metaphor for the female body as a place of life, vulnerability, and strength. Her small figure is not diminishing but heroic—the artist breaks proportional realism to emphasize emotional truth: a small body on a large flower represents a great soul in a world of prejudice, and her laughter is natural, sincere, and unrestrained. In her hands, she holds a black-and-gold bust of a woman’s head, referencing both the visual logo of the exhibition and the symbolism of dual feminine principles. The bust becomes a mirror of identity: a woman holding a woman, complex, layered, and unified in uniqueness. Beneath the flower kneels a group of men in suits, offering gifts and her favorite items, referencing the idea that male admiration follows self-acceptance, not the other way around. The men are not dominant—their roles are supportive, as part of a background where a stylized desert unfolds with cacti shaped like human figures, silent reminders of past bullying, now overcome. Rendered in warm tones of pink, gold, and beige—pink for joy, gold for pride, beige for grounded reality—the painting affirms that a woman’s beauty lies not in symmetry, but in the courage and strength with which she walks through life.

The analysis of the oil painting is further expanded by the portrayed model, Adela Poctova: “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to face it, even when it rages within us. It is a strength that comes from within, from those quiet but deeply rooted moments when we decide not to back down. Courage is when, even with tears in our eyes, we can offer a smile and love. When we feel weak but still find the strength to remain kind—both to ourselves and to others. Being a woman means carrying one’s inner strength with humility and kindness. It’s not just about physical strength, but the strength of the soul that, even in hard times, can still spread light despite the pain. It is the ability to stand up to life, even when it strikes us hard, and yet not lose faith in the beauty we have to offer the world. The Power of Courage is not only about struggle, but about the beauty in how, despite hardships, we manage to stay kind and become a source of light for others—even in moments when our own light seems dim. Courage is not always visible, but it always manifests in what we give to others—in every smile, in every word, in every gesture of love we share.”

The exhibition What It Feels Like for a Girl presents twenty oil paintings created between 2018 and 2025 that explore the female experience in all its depth and complexity. With unified dimensions, the works emphasize continuity and integrity while addressing key social issues such as women’s rights, LGBTQ+ identity, racism, and rising skepticism toward feminism. Each painting was developed in collaboration with a specific model, who contributed not only her likeness but also her emotions and personal themes. In their statements, the models share what being a woman means to them, offering insights into their experiences and struggles. The exhibition invites reflection on the role of women in today’s society and serves as a visual manifesto of equality, respect, and dialogue.
